Hi sorry my big mistake, it's 20% of the worlds population that suffer this at least once in their life time. There is a indipendant move documentary on sleep paralyis called nightmare it is done by the grey brothers. If you go on to youtube there is a trailer of the documentary it looks really good. I don't know how to get a hold of the movie, but if someone does please telll me. There are a few movies on it but if you are looking go for the one done by the grey brother, as it depicts the realisum of sleep paralyisis not just a scary movie. They have done a lot of research all over the world. if someone know how to get this documentary movie please tell me. sorry about the spelling.

im 28 ive suffered from sleep paralysis since my early teens, ive never looked into it before and certainly didnt realise that there are people out there that experiance the same symptems, ill get it a few times a month, most recently this morning and last night, spurring me on to look into it on the net so thank you all for sharing your experiences, it does seem to snowball and once it starts it usually lasts most of the night (or it certainly feels like it does) with several episodes, but ive never really talked about it because people think im mad enough already. so thanks again everybody for sharing your experience it helps. sorry about the spelling

I suffer from sleep paralyis regulary, i first excperenced it at 13 i'm 22 now so i'v suffered it for 9 years now. I found alot of helpful information on the internet. It is a very daunting excperiance expecally the first time. I always experiance it when i'm falling asleep, i can have 4 eposodes in 1 night 1 after the other it can last from a few min's to an hour, I have it at least 1 a week. i'v had all the experiances, of feeling suffacated, loud ringing in my ears like my head is going to explode, outer body, presence in the room, being totally aware of my surroundings and see everything in the room around me, and all these times i'v been unable to move or call out, if someone comes in the room when i'm in this state and they don't wake me up, i can tell them when i do wake up everything that they said, what they done, and what they were wearing at the time, and i'v been told that i don't even open my eyes phyisically. It is scary but after suffering for so long i try ro control it, now when i'm in this state, instead of getting scared of the presence in the room i try to convince myself that it is my husband, it works sometimes. When i feel sufucated i move my eyes very fast to try and wake mysef up, and if it;s an outer body one i just go with it and try to enjoy the feeling of being able to leave my body. I feel that if you are in this state you must remind yourself that it's not real, it's not real you are dreaming but awake. It's very normal so i'v read and at least 80% of the population of the world experiance it at least once in their life, unfortunatly there are people like me who experiance it more often that we would like. I would say read more about it, educate yourself about it, because people can feel like they have lost their mind and are going insane and that they are the only people in the world to experiance it. There is a lot of intresting folk lore about it.
Good luck and take care

Thanks guys.I went to my gp regarding advice from parapsychologist prof christ french from goldsmiths uni in london.I was then referred to a nurologist, who firstly ruled out epilepsy.I have since been told i "may" have suffered from sleep paralysis.
medics say sleep paralysis occurs becasue the brain puts our bodies in a paralysis mode during sleep state,to stop us acting out our dreams and potentially harming ourselves (makes sense i guess)..but for some they arouse during this state and therefor experience the paralysis itself.
the nurologist stated to me,he ruled out epilepsy, but cant say for sure, allthough he did add he personally doesnt believe in ghosts, bless him

I suffered fom this frightening paralysis some years ago. Thinking a dark spirit was causing me to levatate leaving me frozen with fear, literally!!! I spoke with a dream interpreter( although conciously i was awake) when these incidences occured) and was told that i needed to address certain things in my life whether it be personal or a professional that i was not dealing with. The brains a funny thing, i dealt with alot of things, thankfully alot happier now and sleeping soundly. So if there is something on your mind, Talk about it, your only human after all, try to take out time to relax for YOUHope that might help

I have suffered from sleep paralysis and it was the most scary thing in my life. The first time it happened i thought it was a dream but i know i was awake. It felt like there was someone else in the room and then all of a sudden i couldnt move and it felt liked i was being pinned down by this 'dark force'. Took me a long time to get over it as i was scared to go to sleep. I have 3 more episodes since then but i havnt had one in about a year but im always cautious when i go to bed, i try to avoid sleeping on my back as that seemed to trigger the other episodes. Ill never forget the feeling of not being able to move though or that scary dark force that seemed to have me pinned down.
