I think it most certainly can, hun. I've been wearing contact lens...

I think it most certainly can, hun. I've been wearing contact lenses since I was a preteen and am 39 now, and I love eye makeup more than any other makeup. A few tips - be very careful when applying mascara if you wear it; keep it out of the eyes by taking your time, and avoid those that say they create huge or very long lashes - they tend to have lots of fibrous particles in them for lash building that can flake off and irritate the eye. Also, avoid, as I have to do, loose powder shadows in the pot that are like dust; though beautiful they are highly irritating - any shadow that is very dusty like this, or a shadow, any kind, that contains a high mica content (very sparkly) must be used with care as these tiny particles can fall into the eye and really irritate you. One more point I could add; please every night before you go to bed, use a special makeup remover cloth of a nice quality to take that eye makeup off completely, then wash your face. Never go to bed wearing eye makeup as it will irritate those contact lenses. Hope this helps...

I wear rigid gas perm contact lenses, and many types of eye makeup (including a lot of eyeshadows and eyeliners) cause an allergic reaction of sorts that result in build-up on my lenses that clouds my vision. (This is one of the reasons I'm opting for laser eye surgery next month.)

It certainly can. I've worn lenses (currently in gas perms) for 36 years and have had those problems.
I never wear my lenses when applying makeup, I put them in after I've finished making up. I'm lucky I am nearsighted.
I always use a eyeshadow base to hold the shadow, use a brush to blend and whisk off any excess eyeshadow; use a Q-tip to remove any mascara, liner, or powder from the rims of my eyes, put my lenses in after my mascara has dried. These steps significantly reduce the amount of crud which will adhere to the lenses.

Sometimes I am sloppy and get makeup in my eye but then I don't feel it because of the contact. I would suggest putting makeup on before your makeup.
