apparently, im considered as being a person who has in indie rock style, so i'll describe the kind of stuff i wear. dont be frightened by the length of this. just thought i'd go into as much detail as i could. indie rock style varies from person to person because the idea of being indie is that you're kind of an individual.. creative. so... these are just ideas... definately not "guidelines"
first of all... cool t-shirts are a must. whether they're band shirts or just have witty sayings on them. you can get some great ones at gigs and stuff or order them online. or if youre creative like me, make them!
next comes layering, because t-shirts cannot be worn year round
(and shouldn't be. mix it up!!) you can go with any type of cardigan over whatever you want. i must own about fifty of them: stipes, solid colors, ones with sequins, etc. also, v-neck sweaters, chunky sweaters (not the old grandma kind), patterned zip-up sweatshirts. you get the point. just dont try to match that much. don't make yourself look like an idiot, etiher, by trying to mismatch. simply stay away from a single-color-themed outfit. oh, and patterns of almost any kind work.
pants: colored cords and SKINNIES!! most indie rock styled people probably wear skinny jeans about five days out of the week. haha. doesnt really matter which kind. dark wash, light wash, distressed... you name it, its probably in the closet of an indie rocker. haha
shoes: converse. try any solid color (brown, gray, navy, black, olive...) low tops, of course, unless they're reallllly cool. stay away from the black and pink, gothy ones. almost any kind of leather shoe works (i.e. flat, scrunchy boots). flats work as well.
accessories: hmm where do i start. lots of indie rockers have massive amounts of bracelets. haha. hemp, leather, those ones made from embroidery floss (friendship bracelets). simple rings, like skinny silver bands, can be worn, but big ones can be too. earrings... often have several holes in each ear. most jewelry depends on the person. scarves are a must in the winter under a brown cord jacket or pea coat (black or navy). raybans & big round sunglasses.
and last, but not least, to be an indie rocker, you have to listen to, like, and APPRECIATE indie music. :)
hope this helps. keep in mind that an indie rocker style is one combining hippie elements with rock. if what i've said doesnt sound like what you're looking for, look at some pictures of indie bands.
