How Do You Remove A Rust Stain From A White Shirt?

Have spot removed some coffee stains on my husband's shirt, I stupidly left it on the draining rack in the kitchen and forgot about it. When I returned to the shirt the next morning, it had rust spots all over it. I tried using bleach and also a 'vanish' soap bar to no avail. Anyone have any suggestions?

This Really works. Use Whink's Rust Stain Remover....it's in the cleaning section with furniture cleaners, ect. at Wal Mart. It's important to get the shirt damp with water first, then squirt the remover and watch the rust disappear, machine wash immediately after rust stains are removed, otherwise it will eat a hole in the shirt if it sits for long periods of time. Good Luck

Thank you for the replies. Tried your suggestion and it worked a treat! Luckily it was a cotton shirt.

Be careful. I heard this only works on cottons. Other fabrics may turn yellow.

Soak the rust stain in lemon juice, then sprinkle salt over the area. Put the garment into sunlight (inside or outside) and leave for an hour or so. The rust mark will have disappeared. Wash the garment to get rid of salt and lemon mark.
