Heel spurs are usually caused by your shoes. Change shoes. Alternate often. Throw out the old favorites (sorry, it's true). After a month or so (have patience), the spur will be gone. Surgery is needless. If it's really a spur, eliminate the cause (uneven pressure caused by bad shoe heels), then you are spur free!

I was told, however strange it sounds that heel spurs are caused by wearing too flat shoes with no arch support. Try a different pair of shoes as suggested earlier and they'll just disappear. Worked for me.
