Aaah right; editing the registry is a pretty dangerous thing to do, especially if you're not 100% certain of what you're doing. Make sure you've got the disks, because if things go awry you'll need to completely re-install the operating system. Make sure you've backed up anything you couldn't bear to lose, because as I said, this is risky stuff. I take no responsibility whatsoever if things go wrong: you're messing with regedit at your own risk. That said, editing the registry *is* a relatively simple thing to do -- click Start, then Run... and type in regedit and hit enter. If you're sure you want to do this,I think these are the steps you need to follow: http://www.theeldergeek.com/modify_registered_owner_and_organization.htm I'm going to say it again, in capital letters this time: IF IT GOES WRONG, IT'S NOT MY FAULT. It's on your back and yes, I'd highly recommend getting a tech guy in to do it; it'll largely be a waste of money because it's a three minute job, but the peace and security of knowing you're not messing everything up and rendering your computer nigh-on useless might possibly be worth it... Hope it's of some help, and good luck. Dan

Thanks Dan -My wifes name has changed. The registry on XP shows her old name & I wish to change it. I have been advised to go via a technical route of Run "regedit" but that is all a bit beyond me. Is there any other way or should I get a local tech guy in to look at it? Thanks again Jon

Registered how? Do you mean you want to change the User account? That can be done under Control Panel -> User Accounts. If you drop me a line with a little more info about precisely what you're trying to do, I'll look into it for you. All the best, Dan @ VJ.
