Should I Be Concerned About My Baby's Soft Spot Closing?

My baby had her 8 week check up at the doctors, and the doctor said her soft spot on her head is closed. My baby is getting referred to the hospital. I can feel a very small soft spot about the size of my finger tip. Should I be concerned?

my son was diagnosed with this problem. we had to go to a neurosurgeon. he had surgery when he was 5 and a 1/2 months old. his forehead bulged out, it wouldn't grow out the sides, it was shaped funny and large. he his perfect now. they took a strip of his skull out and his head instantly rounded out and his forehead does not bulge anymore. he is now 8 months old his scar is not that bad either.

As far as the soft spot closing at 8 weeks, it probably isn't closed. Can't tell without an xray or cat scan. The skull can continue to grow to accommodate the brain. If by some chance it is closed and the skull is not growing, they can seperate the bones to allow for brain growth. I've read it's way more serious if it doesn't grow together. Follow up with all Dr.'s advice. Anyone advising your child will grow up to be retarded is not informed!!!
