Well, bridle, saddle, stirrup irons (safety irons with the peacocks are the best i think), stirrup leathers, 2 or more numnahs/saddle cloths, feed buckets, water buckets, haynets, rubber mats (if you want one), turnout rug, stable rug, cooler/fleece rug, exercise sheet, brushing boots, over-reach boots (if you want), headcollar, lead rope, bedding, good quality hay, shavings fork/ straw fork, shovel, grooming kit - plastic curry comb, body brush, dandy brush, rubber curry comb, sweat scrape, hoof pick etc. Perhaps add fly spray, hoof oil, and things like that also.
I've probably missed some stuff, but thats quite a lot of it.

The BASICS! just buy what you need like, Rugs for turn out groomin kit, saddle bridle!! Well When i got my horse i only had a headcoller and leadrope thats what i started of with! o and a few rugs for turnout! got a saddle and bridle like a month later but my horse didnt mind me riding him barback and with a leadrope clippd around the headcoller! just by what u thnk u will need! take time to build it up! also i know u might wont a mazing horse but this sounds weird! spend a little less on the horse and more on rugs, tack, feed, bedding as log as you give nice things to the horse, your horse will give nice things back!
hope that helps! good luck

If you go to your nearest equine center/shop staff there will show you everything you need, but if you need tack get it fitted by a saddler

No one has mentioned yet to make sure that you buy a good riding hat, safety first! The saddle should fit the horse, dont go for a cheap indian thing just to get one, this can have serious effects on the horses future and also yours, it it chucks you off becuase it does not fit! Get good second hand rather than cheap new. Forget about things like jumps or stable bandages untill you need them and you may never need them. Saddle, bridle, indoor and outdoor rugs or one that does both middle weight and heavy weight depending on the weather and if your horse is clipped out or not. Headcollar and lead rope and basic grooming kit. You can build on everything later. As said before, good quality feed stuffs. What you put in you get out, you will never get a fantastic looking horse if you feed cheap feed stuffs, but dont over feed and observe the ten golden rules!
Good luck, and mostly, never ever worry about asking for advice from people that have reall experience with owning horses. Good luck! We all keep learning and I have been riding and have owned horses for over 33 years and still am hungry to learn more! Only the ignorant stop learning.

i think the basic things needed to keep a horse is a halter, lead rope, bridle, a curry comb, a hard and soft brush, a hoof pick, and a place that boards/feeds/ and turns out....you can always buy a saddle later on when you have more money and until then, you could ride bareback...any who, bareback is way easier, and less time consuming

Well, I got my new horse 6 months ago, and I'm still shopping for equipment... there is always something you forget or don't know you need until you really need it... but in short... a saddle, a bridle, a bit that suits him/her most (you may need to try a few), a numnah or a saddle cloth (I have about seven, which may sound a bit exesive, but I like to change and wash them regularly - you probably need at least two), a winter rug (and perhaps a summer rug), a cooler, some bandages or protection boots for work (if needed), a grooming kit (and all that comes along with it... hoof oil, mane and tail conditioner, ...), head collar and leading rope, I also use stable bandages to keep his legs warm and protected (they always go hand-in-hand with bandage-pads). A first aid kit is also a usefull thing to have, because you never know...and naturally some good feed and quallity hay. If you intend to travel, there are also traveling boots...
Sorry, I gues I can't keep it short... but the list of things is ever growing... ;o)
