hi, i have changed insurance company before it ended so i was only with them for 5 months, then i went to a new insurance policy but am looking at changing again, in june i will have a year with out claiming but i have no no claims certificate can i still get one even though it is spead over 2 different companies. thanks

You can ask the insurance company you were with previously to send you a letter confirming your no claims bonus, you can then send that letter to your new insurance company - at least that is how I did it, hope this helps!

No claim bonus is a reward to the policy holder by the insurance company. It is due only if the policy holder does not raise any claim for a period of one year from the date of issue/renewal of his/her policy. So, at the time of renewal of the policy, the insurance company checks if any claims have been made. If no claims are made, then the insurance company extends a rebate in the premium amount. The no claim bonus is not paid to the policy holder in cash. But it is passed on to him/her by way of a calculated (% based) discount in the policy renewal premium. As a proof of no claim bonus, the insurance comapny will issue you a certificate indicating the amount of bonus earned by you. The bonus amount keeps increasing year after year if no claim is raised by the policy holder. Alternatively, you can yourself see the bonus given to you in the renewed policy as you will have paid a lesser premium than you paid the year before,
