It is due only if the policy holder does not raise any claim for a period of one year from the date of issue/renewal of his/her policy. So, at the time of renewal of the policy, the insurance company checks if any claims have been made. If no claims are made, then the insurance company extends a rebate in the premium amount. The no claim bonus is not paid to the policy holder in cash. But it is passed on to him/her by way of a calculated (% based) discount in the policy renewal premium. As a proof of no claim bonus, the insurance comapny will issue you a certificate indicating the amount of bonus earned by you. The bonus amount keeps increasing year after year if no claim is raised by the policy holder.
