So if you and your three friends go into say...a slightly pricier restaruant and you all order 15-20 dollar plates, along with prepping your salads,prepping and delivering your drinks and food and checking back to make sure you're okay after keeping you refilled and stocked with condiments and napkins, etc... your potentially 70-90 dollar ticket will only net that server 4 measly bucks?!

You are already paying for your food and the resturant hardly wants you to go into the kitchens to collect the food yourself!! You are giving the resturant bussiness by eating there and the resturant pay the staff, its not down to the customer and the staff have a cheek to EXPECT it.&lt;/p&gt;</description>

      <description>&lt;p&gt;In most U.S. restaurants the server is only paid $2.33/hr by the restaurant.  Everything else has to come from tips.  Moreover, the server usually has to pay the busser/bartender/foodrunner based on a percentage of your bill.  So a tip of 20% comes out to about 15% of your bill.  Beyond that the server also must do a lot more than just take your order and serve you.  They must do sidework and roll silverware for you.  Serving is a difficult profession and of course gratuity should be based on the level of service you are provided however if the server does an impeccable job they should be tipped 20-30%.  Please realize that kitchen mistakes are usually not the servers fault and that they should be tipped on how they handle the problem rather than the fact that there was a problem to begin with.&lt;/p&gt;</description>

      <description>&lt;p&gt;I typically tip a minimum of $5 if I'm alone. As a server myself, we remember those individuals that leave $1 per person... and we avoid them at all cost. Mr. and Mrs. "$1" will, on average, end up at a  table manned by the waiter/waitress of lesser skill. If an individuals tipping habit is poor, chances are that someone within the restaurant knows. It's basically an issue of respectability; if the server is working hard and is honest, i feel they are deserving of a reward. I never wake up looking forward to the $1 individuals.&lt;/p&gt;</description>

Oftentimes mistakes with the food, atmospheric problems, and other small annoyances are not the fault of the server. Your tip is completely based upon their level of service to you. Nearly all of their salary is from your tips and those that say otherwise have never worked in the food industry. The entirety of the cost goes to the restaurant. Most waiters are only paid slightly over $2US per hour. It is simply good etiquette to tip well for good service. But one must also remember that a waiter is not a slave. They are there to ensure your dining experience is an enjoyable one and that you are well taken care of - you, and all of the other people they are serving at the same time. They're only human.&lt;/p&gt;</description>
