You should be sure you want to 'come out' firstly. Being gay is not such an issue these days (speaking as a UK/European) So t isnt the big issue it used to be even 20 years ago. However you should come out to the person you MOST trust. depending on your family and or peers, you may feel like comming out to a select few. whichever way you chose make sure YOU are comfortable with yourself. remember, It IS ok to be Gay. think of youself as a person not a catagory. I have many thoughts on this process and has often encountered a 3 tier experience. Many people initially come out to those they feel most comfortable with best friends, a sybling,parents. Sometimes, bouyed by success and positive regard they sart to come out to a secondary group. This group may not be as predictable and can lead to a mixed reactions. At this point there a 2 choices halt the process or in a desperate desire for more positive regard dash on to the third group. This group is often a total unknown and people rushing to come out to this group are often spared on by internalised homophobia that needs to be assuaged by positivity from others. It can often be a very destructive path to take and the damage can take years to heal. Ian G Green
