Why Is My Newborn Drinking So Much Milk?

I have a 1 month old baby who constantly looks for milk. I breastfeed. He gets up when he passes stool/urine and looks for milk. I feed him every hour. He takes more than what he can digest and gets it out of nose and mouth. I am really worried, I burp the baby often after feed, But when he is asleep, I make him sleep on his side.Your sugestion would be helpful .

Your baby is feeding so much to increase your milk supply, this is normal to feed this often. However you should pick up a copy of The Baby Whisperer and invest in the miracle blanket(miraclebalnket.com).By 6 weeks you should be having feeding s every three hours,so maybe your little one just needs to be soothed back to sleep. You wan to be sure though that the baby is getting enough milk.Is the baby peeing and pooping? If so try swaddling and white noise and by all means buy that book right now!

i faced the same situation with my baby. While we should feed our babies upon demand, we have to be mindful of their reactions. Perhaps you could pause his feed and burp him before allowing him to resume again. Alternatively as in my case, I had to pace her feeding time. But never hesitate to pick up the phone your doc or pay your doc a visi t. If ever in doubt, it is never a small matter . All the best and enjoy the many fun moments that wait you!

sounds like you just have a baby who loves their food. Breast milk is digested quicker than formula milk therefore breastfed babies tend to feed more often. Maybe see your midwife or doctor about the baby bringing up milk through his/her nose. I don't know for sure but some babies can have a little acid reflux ( where the stomach acid makes a baby bring up milk even after they have been winded).
