Why would a biological father have to go through an adoption process for his own child...? I just need a simple question answered. My boyfriend has a 15 year old child and his child has his last name. However, if this is his biological child, why would he have to go through an adoption procedure? A home study needs to be done and so on. Are there more than the obvious reason for this? Could it be, that he isn’t the biological child or could it be because his name was never added to the birth certificate? I thought all that needed to be done to determine a parent was a simple DNA test? Is this not true.
