About CAMRA

Jeff Evans (Freelance beer Writer) gives expert video advice on: What is CAMRA?; What do CAMRA do?; How do I join CAMRA?

What is CAMRA?

CAMRA stands for the Campaign for Real Ale. It's a consumer organization founded in 1971 with the aim of protecting the British brewing industry, and lobbing and campaigning on behalf of be a drinker's rights.

What do CAMRA do?

CAMRA is actively involved in campaigning for issues that concern the beer drinker and the pub world. It could be licensing laws. It could be the quality of beer in pubs. It could be the tax on beer. It takes the issues directly to politicians both at Westminster and in Europe. It also raises the issues regarding brewery closures and the discontinuation of certain types of beer. It acts as a guardian for all that's good in the industry and stands up for drinkers who may have a gripe about some certain aspect of the industry.
