Adoption For Military Families
Jennifer Perry (Executive Director, Children's Action Network) gives expert video advice on: Can military families adopt?; What if my military family lives overseas?
Can military families adopt?
Military families can adopt. In fact, a great number of military families do adopt. The most important thing for a military family to look at is finding an agency that's comfortable with the number of moves that are typically made by a military family. Indeed there are some agencies who are very comfortable with that, and some that are not. So sometimes, that is the most difficult aspect for a military family interested in adopting.
What if my military family lives overseas?
If a military family lives overseas, they are governed by the same adoption rules and regulations that someone living in the U.S. is, because a military base is considered U.S. soil. In particular, they are governed by the ICPC, or the Interstate Compact for the Placement of Children.
