Advanced Skateboarding
Tony Alva (Pro Skateboarder) gives expert video advice on: Why should I use the whole course when skateboarding?; What do judges look for at a skateboard competition?; What type of skateboard skills do I need when trying to use the whole course?
Why should I use the whole course when skateboarding?
If your going to go out and hit two little, like a gap and a handrail and stuff and just focus on that, the judges are going to look at you as just limited. Their going to go this kid is a one hit wonder or a one trick pony. It's like the thing to winning a skateboard contest, especially pro, is you've got to be able to skate everything.
What do judges look for at a skateboard competition?
Probably consistency. They look for style. They look for power., They look for speed. They look for the technicality, like how technical, how difficult it is.
What type of skateboard skills do I need when trying to use the whole course?
If you want to use the whole course, then you better be able to skate just pretty much anything. If you're just a street skater or if you're just a vert skater, then you're not going to be able to do it.
