Alcohol

Is alcohol bad for you?

Alcohol can affect your judgment to make very important decisions in your life. It can also change your behavior, and can make you either drop your inhibitions or behave in a way that you wouldn't be happy with if you were sober. The important thing is that everything is in moderation. Know your limits and don't drink too much alcohol.

What happens when you get drunk?

What should I do if all my friends keep pressuring me to get drunk with them?

Often, people pressurize other people to do negative stuff because it makes them feel better about the negative stuff that they're doing themselves. For example, if they're all drunk and you're sober, that will maybe make them feel a bit silly for always getting drunk, and they'll want you to fit in. It's important that you don't feel pressurized and that you drink as little or as much as you personally feel comfortable with.

What is alcoholism?

Alcoholism is when you have to top up the alcohol in your body on not just a daily basis, but often on an hourly basis. For example, when you wake up, you can't function for the day unless you've got alcohol in your body, at which point you seriously need to get some professional help.

How can I spot that someone is alcoholic?

It would be difficult for you to tell because you would need to be a medical professional to spot that. However, for example, you felt that somebody was regularly on a daily basis appeared to be drunk, couldn't function without alcohol and it changed their behavior on a regular basis, you might want to talk to them about getting some help for drinking too much.

How can I help an alcoholic?

You can help an alcoholic by supporting them in going to see their doctor or any other professionals they can go to see about not having a dependency on alcohol. It may be by listening to them, or maybe by offering to go out to places that doesn't involve alcohol. For example, if you went to the cinema, he wouldn't be able to drink alcohol while you were in there. Essentially, by supporting them and not making them feel bad about it.
