What is "autism"?
Autism is a developmental disability of the central nervous system. Autism is usually characterized by impairments to a person's ability to interact socially, to imagine, and to communicate with others.
Do students with autism require special education programs?
Students with autism require special education programs only if the nature of their disability is so severe that it negatively impacts their access to the general curriculum, and if they're determined to be eligible through the IEP process. Otherwise, students with autism are not.
