Bachelor Parties- In The Beginning
Pamela Yager (Founder, President, and CEO of Bride's Night Out, Inc.) gives expert video advice on: Where did bachelor parties start?; When did bachelor parties start in the US?; How have bachelor parties changed over the years?
Where did bachelor parties start?
Bachelor parties started a long time ago. It's believed that they actually started in Sparta in the 5th century BC. And the Romans and the Greeks also celebrated bachelor parties. They didn't call them bachelor parties at the time, but they did have dinners for the groom to be and celebrated his pending nuptials.
When did bachelor parties start in the US?
It's believed that bachelor's parties started a long time ago, although they really didn't kick into full gear until the early '80s, mid-80's. About 1984 is when Tom Hanks' "Bachelor Party" movie came out, and that was really at the height of when bachelor parties started getting their reputation.
How have bachelor parties changed over the years?
Bachelor parties have really evolved over the years. From like the thirties they used to have stag parties and showgirl films or sometimes they would go out to have dinners. And then in the 80s they would have a lot of those stripper kind of routines. And nowadays they are really diversifying. They are going out and doing sporting events. They are having white water rafting or going on a golf tour. They are having a lot more destination events. So they really are getting involved with the "how do we get to hang out with our buddies and go on a trip we've always wanted to go to". Maybe a sporting game. But they like that bonding experience too.
