Bachelorette Parties- In The Beginning
Pamela Yager (Founder, President, and CEO of Bride's Night Out, Inc.) gives expert video advice on: When did bachelorette parties start in the US?; Where did bachelorette parties start?; How have bachelorette parties evolved over the years?
Where did bachelorette parties start?
What we call bachelorette parties originated in the UK, Canada and Ireland, what they called stagette parties or hen parties. And it's believed that they started approximately 30 years ago when they started calling them hen parties and stagette parties, although women had been doing them for many, many years. What they would do is after the bridal shower, some of the girlfriends, the bride's friends, contemporary friends would go out for some drinks. So they're actually having a sort of bachelorette party they just didn't call it that at that time.
How have bachelorette parties evolved over the years?
In the mid-eighties we were trying to be like the guys. We were trying to go to the strip-clubs and do what they did, but then by the time the nineties hit the women didn't really want to just go there. We really want to hang out with the girls, discuss our past romances, have fun with them, so, they really started developing their own types of bachelorlette parties; creating themes that involved hobbies, maybe going out on the town creating games that really focused on bonding and sharing with one another.
