Behavioural Profiling
Rod Cornwell (International Director, Thomas International) gives expert video advice on: How should I fill out a behavioural profile?; What are the golden rules of coping with a behavioural profile? and more...
What is a behavioural profile?
A behavioural profile is a questionnaire. It's not like a psychometric test, although people will often confuse the two. A behavioural profile looks at your work style and how you're likely to behave in the work environment.
Why might an employer use a behavioural profile?
Quite often an interviewer will look at using a behavioural profiling tool to get behind the “interview mask” that you're wearing. Because let's face it, in an interview you're prepared, you're polished, you're doing your very, very best. A behavioural profiling questionnaire gets behind that performance that you're giving, and finds out a little bit more about the people that they're dealing with--i.e..., you.
What should I expect in a behavioural profile?
A behavioural profiling questionnaire is very short. It should take no longer than 10 minutes to complete, and all the interviewer will ask you to do is to be honest and think of yourself in the workplace. They're not trying to catch you out by using a behavioural profiling questionnaire; they want to look at your preferred style of working.
What are the golden rules of coping with a behavioural profile?
When completing a behavioural profile, make sure that you're honest and you're spontaneous with your answers. Remember, your interviewer isn't trying to catch you out in the behavioural profile, they want you to just give a direct and honest response. There are no right or wrong answers on a behaviour profile questionnaire. All they're looking for is honest answers, and looking at the behaviours that you prefer to adopt in the workplace.
