Birthing Classes
What are "birthing classes"?
Birthing classes are classes that are offered most often by the hospital where you will give birth, a local hospital closer to your home if you are going to be delivering far away, or even sometimes by your doctor in the office. Birthing classes instruct you on what to expect when you go into labour, when you are in labour and delivery, and even after in the post partum experience. They will discuss things like birthing techniques; there's Lamaze and there's Bradley. Those are some of the various different techniques and each hospital will talk about different things. You can go to local birthing centres; you can go to breastfeeding stations that are sometimes in your community, and these various places will offer classes that will instruct you on the various things that we discussed, but also on different birthing techniques as well.
How do I choose the best birthing class?
Choosing the right birthing technique is difficult to answer because everybody's different and everyone has preconceived notions of what they want to experience and of course you'll have to discuss this with your partner and oftentimes you talk to your friends or family members and kind of garner some information from what they've experienced in the past, so when you get pregnant or if you are pregnant, doing a little research to see what you would expect from your experience will then sometimes dictate what kind of birthing practice or birthing technique you would like to follow.
