Breaking Up

How do I know when I should break up with someone?

You know it's time to break up with someone hen your self-esteem is suffering, when you're not feeling good about yourself and when you're sad all the time. It is time to break up with someone when there's nothing you can do to communicate with that person. Then you know it's time to leave.

What is the best way to break up with someone?

There's no good way to break up with somebody. It's going to hurt. It's going to hurt you, it's going to hurt them. The bottom line is try to take responsibility as well. Talk about what you did in the relationship that made it not work.

What is the best way to deal with a painful breakup?

There are a lot of things that you can do to deal with a painful breakup. First of all, you need a support system. Whether it's a therapist, or whether it's a mental health professional to help you deal with that depression that you're going to go through or that emotional pain or the ups and downs. You need somebody to talk to. Secondly, you need to do things. You need to do things that you've never done before. You need to keep busy. Then you need to have an exercise program. If you do things physically, you can get the endorphins going. It'll make you feel a lot better. And finally, don't beat yourself up. It's not your fault. It just happened. There are a lot of fish in the sea and you will catch another one.

This video was about breaking a relationship, not divorce! There is a difference - I think that what she states is sound advise, bar the american needs for seeing a therapist for everything, in english that translates to a good druken night out - lol

Breaking up can be one of the most painful experiences in life but it can also be a springboard to learning about yourself in ways you may never have before. Try to focus after the breakup on improving yourself rather than dwelling on your ex. It all comes back to you. If you are happy then others will be around you as well. Read about being codependant. Perhaps I should say ...about not being so codependant. Learn that we each must be whole individuals and that a relationship does not define or complete you. Hopefully a new relationship will have a better chance with both parties keeping it very clear that the relationship is an exstension of both parties.

If you've been married for 20 years and you break up with this advise, then think again especially if there are children involved

I don't think you should "cushion" him, it'll just be harder to separate from you.
