Changing Your Tattoo
What is a 'cover up'?
Occasionally, we get people that are unhappy with their previous tattoo design. Tattoos can be covered up with other designs - we call it a tattoo cover up. Go in and talk to your tattoo artist, so we can then determine what types of design will successfully cover up your design. Remember that black has to be covered up with black, so we can't just tattoo skin colour over your existing tattoo.
Can any tattoo be covered?
Most of all tattoos can be covered in one shape or form. Go in and speak with your tattoo artist, so that you can determine what type of design is right for you and what will be going over that other tattoo. You definitely don't want it to look like one tattoo on top of the other. Remember, you are entering into a compromise situation; however, we are usually able to cover up most designs.
What should I consider before covering a tattoo?
You have already made a tattoo decision that you are unhappy with, so take your time in deciding what design will work out for you. Think long-term, because that is what tattoos are - they are forever.
What should I do if my tattoo is stretched out?
If your tattoo becomes stretched out, possibly from a pregnancy, or excessive weight gain or loss, usually we can touch them up and make them look new again, or possibly cover them up, or add onto to them. All of those are ways of repairing a tattoo.
What should I do if my tattoo is faded?
If your tattoo is faded, generally we will redo them or touch up the parts that are necessary to bring the color and life back to them for you. Once the tattoo is on you, done by a professional, it will last you most of your life. Twenty, thirty years from now it might be looking like they need repair, but generally at that point, they still look good.
