Childproofing The Pool And Yard
How do I keep the pool area safe for my children?
Family swim time is a blast and you will have so many great, great memories with your family. To have peace of mind, if you have a swimming pool, you must keep it safe. It is paramount that you install a pool fence, a pool alarm, and a home alarm that will beep every single time a door or a window is open so that you as a parent always know who is coming or going is also probably a second or third defence against the pool accidents, but fencing is the best.
How do I keep my child safe on our outdoor deck?
No child should ever be allowed access to an outdoor deck or a balcony without adult supervision, bottom line. It's also important to, contrary to how many parents feel, not have any chairs or any type of patio set out on the outdoor deck, because the child simply needs to climb up onto the chair and then up onto the table, and then over the rail. So, it's important to keep all furniture off the outdoor deck. Make sure that the toys are not stackable so that the baby can stack and climb over. It's important to remember that the children are not trying to think crazy. They just want to see daddy coming or the postman or the dog barking and they just want to get a better vantage. We need to be one step ahead of them as parents to make sure that they're always safe when they're out on the deck.
How do I keep my driveway safe for my children?
Outside play is so much fun for kids and of course they need to get out there in the sunshine. And you need the piece of mind as a parent to know that your baby's going to be safe on the driveway when you're outside. Number one, you are always supervising when they're outside on the driveway. But to help your job it's important to install a driveway catcher at the end of the driveway to make sure that balls or toys that are sliding down the driveway and into the street are caught right at the end and that your baby is safe and not running into harm's way.
How do I keep my children safe in the yard?
When your child's playing in your yard, the best way to keep your baby safe is to supervise. No baby should be outside playing in a yard; they could be ingesting all sorts of things that weren't there the day before that are there today, because it is nature. So we can't keep control over our yards as well as we can our homes; however, you need to also make sure that the plants that are in the yard are non-poisonous; we talked about that earlier, regarding poisonous plants. And then it's also important that choking hazards are removed, whether they're small pebbles or rocks that you've decorated your yard with. And it's also important to make sure that if you're doing any gardening, there are not any pesticides or whatnot: there may sometimes be snail pellets in the yard that kids will pick up and ingest. Just be sure that you're gardening differently, organically perhaps, now that you're a parent. You need to keep that in mind, and that everything that you do in that yard is going to come in contact with your child, and that you need to think safely.
