Jeffrey Spencer (Sports Chiropractor) gives expert video advice on: What risks are involved in having my child's spine adjusted? and more...
At what age is it considered safe to go to a chiropractor?
People of all ages benefit greatly from chiropractic care. I think, in my personal experience, I've treated kids as young as two years of age with terrific results. As long as you've got a spine, and as long as we've got a body, we're vulnerable to the same issues.
Is it possible an infant's spine can be misaligned?
It's entirely possible that an infant's spine can be misaligned; they trip, they fall, there's a lot of different things that can challenge and create misalignments in the spine and other joints of the body, and as a matter of fact, there's actually a chiropractic specially that's offered at the post graduate level that specializes in pediatrics for just that very set of conditions.
What are some symptoms that indicate my child needs a chiropractor?
Indications for chiropractic care for a child include: any type of slip and fall, a sports injury, a bonk on the head, a hit on the knee, a sprained ankle and crying. If you see a child walking with a certain level of asymmetry or distortion from side to side, that is a definite indication that chiropractic care is needed. Other indications to look out for include if they're complaining about pain somewhere in the body that's one-sided. Those are the most common reasons to see a chiropractor.
What risks are involved in having my child's spine adjusted?
Parents should not be concerned about having a chiropractor adjust their child. The chiropractic doctor always considers the individualized needs of the child and chooses the appropriate care with that in mind.
