What are the divisions of the CIA?
The CIA today has three basic divisions: the Clandestine Service, which does the human spying; the Directorate of Science and Technology, which does the technological spying, if you will; and finally the Directorate of Intelligence, which analyzes the information from the other directorates.
What is the 'Center for the Study of Intelligence'?
The Center for the Study of Intelligence is a think tank within the CIA. Usually, officers who are retiring will be assigned to that and they study various historical aspects of the CIA to see how the CIA previously did, and what could be done better. A lot of what they do is made public on the website.
What is the 'Office of the General Counsel'?
The Office of the General Counsel, as you might suspect, is the legal side of the CIA. It has over 100 lawyers. There are so many very delicate, sensitive questions that they have to address in this open society that we have, where they also do all this secret work. it's a very, very important part of the CIA.
What is the 'Office of Inspector General'?
The Office of Inspector General is the component that looks at possible abuses within the CIA. It does now report to the president, and there was a big controversy about that. It is not sub serving to the head of the CIA.
What is the CIA's 'Office of Public Affairs'?
The Office of Public Affairs is the public relations of the CIA. They do what many other PR people do, and they not only deal with the press but also with Hollywood, when Hollywood wants to do a movie relating to the CIA.
