Where can we get advice on moving in together?

To get advice on moving in together, the best place to look is the shelter website, which is http://www.shelter.org.uk/ There you'll find the answers to most of your questions, and hopefully ways in which to get answers to any other questions that you have that aren't there.

What is a cohabitation contract?

A cohabitation contract is a formal agreement between you and your partner which deals with the living arrangements when you move in together. The focus is usually on finance, on money and how you share your income, how you pay the expenses of living together. Also, of course, if you own any property, what share you have in that property. Cohabitation agreements can also deal with day to day living expenses and arrangements.

Should I get a cohabitation contract?

It's a very personal decision whether you get a cohabitation contract or not. Some people think it's the most unromantic thing to do. If you own property, it can be a sensible thing to do because, unfortunately, you do sometimes have to think of the consequences if the relationship does break down and you go your separate ways. On the other hand, if you're not owning property, if you're renting property, and you're just thinking about day-to-day living expenses, a cohabitation contract may not be so necessary.
