Constipation
Siamak Tabib (Gastroenterologist, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles, CA) gives expert video advice on: What can I do about constipation? and more...
What is "constipation"?
Constipation is generally defined as the inability to move our bowels on a usual and regular basis. There's a wide variety of how people have bowel movements. Some people have regular bowel movements every day. Some people have bowel movements every other day. Some people can have bowel movements once a week or even once every two weeks. Now, if you generally have bowel movements that occur less than once every three days, you fall into the category of having constipation.
What can I do about constipation?
The best treatments for constipation centre on the reason why constipation takes place originally. If it's because of a lack of enough fluids and hydration, the best treatment would be to drink more water and drink more liquids. If it is centred around the type of medicines that one may be taking for a variety of reasons, then maybe the medicines can be either changed. If they cannot be changed, sometimes using stool softeners or increasing in the fibre in our diet can certainly help achieve more regular bowel movements.

Once every 2 weeks! Not even Paris Hilton would be able to hold it in that long!
