Depression At University

Cassie Pirelli (Welfare Adviser, University of Westminster) gives expert video advice on: How do I know if I am depressed? and more...

What are some of the causes of depression?

Depression can be caused by a whole host of things, from a traumatic life event through to being stressed over University exams or just having a poor diet. The causes of depression can also be genetically based, where you don't have enough of the chemicals in your brain which naturally make you happy, and therefore causes depression.

Who should I talk to if I think I am suffering from depression?

If you think you're suffering from depression at university, the first thing to do is get yourself down to the university doctor or counsellor and talk your problems through. You can also go onto the Depression Alliance website, or lines where they have a lot of information about what depression is, what causes it and how to make yourself feel better.
