Dos And Don'ts For Denim
What are the biggest denim don'ts?
Denim don'ts include wearing jeans that are just too tight to give you the sort of thong effect from the back and/or the butt cleavage and/or the muffin top. And also I don't like the whiskers in the front--they just make a woman look too wide--and also camel toe.
What should I look for in a good pair of jeans?
A good pair of jeans should be dark-washed so that they are slimming. They should fit to the top of the foot, and they should fit so that you don't have the muffin-top effect. Stick to something that fits perfectly, even if you have to spend the $250. A good pair of jeans, a good denim, that's a girl's best friend. Forget the finance.
What are 'mom jeans'?
Mom jeans are jeans that are sort of really high wasted. Not the cool Sienna Miller kind, but really high wasted, pleated in the front, and tapered at the ankle. Usually you will see older more mature women wearing them.
How low can you go in 'low-rise jeans'?
Can we just get rid of the low-rise jeans? You don't want to show any butt cleavage, and you don't want to show any front cleavage. Stick to something that is minimally below the waist. Follow the three-finger rule. Take your three fingers and place them at your belly button. Your jeans should not ride higher than the bottom of your third finger.
Can everyone wear 'skinny jeans'?
Can everyone wear skinny jeans? I've got to say no but yet at the same time I'd say yes, only because, I did not think I could ever wear skinny jeans being a sort of a short curvaceous woman who by wearing skinny jeans would not be the most flattering look. But when I tried a pair on and then I was like "wow, it was actually, it's kind of cute with high heels". So can everyone wear them? You could try. Try them on. I think that's a good rule of thumb. If you could try them on and it would fit for you, then go for it. If you feeling self-conscious about the top being too tightly fitted, throw over a long oxford, or throwover a sort of luminous top over the skinny jeans. Wear them like tights or leggings.
Should I buy some high-waisted jeans as seen on celebs like Sienna Miller?
I do believe that high-waisted jeans may be a trend that's happening right now. But one that I think is a cute trend because it's a very flattering look. And one day we'll find a happy medium between high-rise and low-rise and that's where we should stay.
Is there a style of jean that's universally flattering?
I think a great, universal style of jean that looks great on everybody is a boot cut. More specifically, a Seven Jean boot cut. Seven Jeans really just fit every female figure wonderfully.
What are the do's and don'ts of denim rinses?
The do's of denim are definitely dark wash, because you can make it a more dressed-up look. You want to stay away from really light and acid-washed jeans. Gray works, but a light blue does not.
Is gray denim a do or a don't?
Gray denim is cute when paired with the right thing, like when it is paired with a vest, or paired with a kimono-style sweater. This is especially for skinny gray denim. It really works.
How should my jeans be hemmed?
You should have your jeans so that they fit right to the top of your foot, and the back should skim the floor by a quarter of an inch.
Jeans with holes-a do or a don't?
I think jeans with holes are sort of cute when they're your most loved pair of jeans that just happened to have gotten holes in them because they're so loved. Otherwise, don't spend $250.00 on a pair of Lucky Brand that has holes already in them.
Bedazzled jeans-a do or a don't?
Bedazzled jeans are a don't. Enough said.
Distressed hems-a do or a don't?
Distressed hems are much like the holes in the jeans. If you are going to have distressed hems, get it from the wear of the jeans. I certainly try to achieve a distress hem myself, by taking scissors to the end of the jeans so that it give that sort of stringy, lived in vibe. I think it is cute when they are casual jeans; do not wear a distressed hem with a more dressed up look or to the office.
Cuffed jeans-a do or a don't?
I only think cuffed jeans work it they're wide leg. Otherwise, stay far away.
