How did you transition from practicing medicine to being on 'Loveline' with Adam Corolla?

The television thing was also again, serendipity. A couple of producers showed up in the mid nineties when I was broadcasting with Ricky Racklin. They said, "We are doing a TV show. Do you guys want to do it? We are going to do it with you or without you. Are you interested?" I went, "I will give it a try." They turned to me and said, "Who should do the show?" I said, "I have no idea." I remember a couple of days I was out running. I could tell you the spot I was at. I thought, "Boy, I bet that guy who does that character in the morning, that Mr. Bircham character, I bet that guy can do it, Adam Corolla. They screen tested us, put us in a makeup booth and said basically, "Work out your relationship. We will start filming in an hour," and that was Loveline on MTV.

How do your patients react when they realize they are being treated by the Dr Drew?

Patients either specialty likes it. Witch not a silly good things cause it is kind over idealize me. And again it is not to doing that it is a part of recovery or they used as wide and under mind me. You know that sort of that brings ups myself love line or something under my authority not good. For the most part those their houseful offer patients mean their a sick patients and through the hospital door and they can see me to the haste of their detox now like hear that? Just help me I need heal from sick they don't really care. And I think some rehab that it can help. And I assure them that this is a nearly expertise that I have.

Do you treat celebrities differently than ordinary people?

I remember a lot of celebrities in my life and it's no different. I made a huge mistake really in my career when we have treated a couple of celebrities, can't tell you who. And we've gave them a sort of special room, special treatment. I quickly learned that it's a disaster for patients. You don't give them anything special, they are just human with a disease, like everybody else, get in the room, do the work and that's that.

Do celebrities take advantage of their star status?

They keep demanding special considerations. They maintain their narcissistic inflation. They are defended against really genuine emotional interaction. And it just doesn't allow the treatment process to take hold at all.
