Family Abductions
What is a "family abduction"?
A family abduction is a situation where a non-custodial parent takes a child from the custodial parent, and the custody is determined obviously by the courts, generally during a divorce proceeding.
Who is at the greatest risk of a family abduction?
The younger the child, the greater the risk. When children are at that young and cuddly age, and both parents are so enormously attached to the child, it becomes really problematic if there's a break up. And, oftentimes, the non-custodial parent out of revenge will take the child.
What are the signs that my child is at risk for a family abduction?
I think the biggest sign that your child might be at risk for a family abduction is if there is a bitter or contested divorce proceeding where custody becomes the main issue. We then find a lot of vindictiveness, to the point that family abducation happens more than 200,000 times a year in this country alone.
What do I do if my child has been abducted by a family member?
Firstly, you want to contact a law enforcement. This can be the national center for missing and exploited children. This organisation may be able to do something to help you. You will also want to look for any kind of local non profit organization that are involved in missing children's issues. You would also, depending upon the circumstances, start notifying media assignments desk's as well. Then once you started covering all those bases, the next logical step is to notify other family members on both sides of the family. Then it becomes just a matter of tracking that individual down and bringing the children back where they belong.
