Foods For Competitive Eating
With what food do you compete?
The food that I like to compete with most, obviously, would be pickles. I'm not really that great in hot dogs. I do have some small minor hot dog titles out there. That's a very common food but for me the most important thing, the thing that I love to compete in, I do like, and there's not enough of contests like these, we should do more of these, I do love fruit items, vegetable items. Believe it or not, healthy stuff. And I think I would be really good in that and I'm always looking to develop those kinds of events. I think if there were more of those kinds of events I would have established a few standards in those contests as well.
Why did you choose pickles as your competitive food?
Simply because when you look at my eating style, how I eat, how I approach the food, how I break it down, everything about who I am as a competitive eater, the mechanics of who I am as an eater, make me devastating in pickles. I don't know how else to say that.
What is your pickle eating record?
My pickle eating record is 2.94 pounds of hard sour pickles. Really hard ones that you find often in New York delis or delis like this, Zan's, here in Long Island. So 2.94 in 3 minutes and 45 seconds.
What are some common misconceptions about pickles?
One of the biggest misconceptions about pickles unfortunately, is that it is a gimic food. Meaning that someone who really is not a strong eater can learn how to eat and beat someone who is greater. I am going to tell you right now for the record, okay, that it is absolutely not the truth, it is non a gimic food it was a very technique gerben food and you should spend a little bit of time to figure it out. But It is a non gimic food, you have to be a damn good eater. The reasons is a lot of time it goes on the pickles the time you put in your mouth, the time it goes in your stomach you have to chew, you have to break it down, when you use the technique or the corn pop technique or you use my technique whatever approach you use you still got to do a lot of stock to that pickle before it gets into your stomach. So I will say this and I will stand by it, okay, you have to be tough as you can be to be a good pickle eater.
