My child keeps writing her homework assignments down wrong. What can I do?

If your child consistently writes down the wrong homework assignments, there are many things that you can do to help. Many teachers give student plan books to their students to record their homework assignments in, and many teachers are more than happy to sign their signature to the plan book to verify that the information is recorded correctly. Also, many teachers have websites where they record homework assignments for parents to review.

What can I do if my child's teacher assigns too much homework?

If you believe that your child's teacher may be assigning too much homework, it's important that you talk to your child's teacher. Talk to your teacher and listen to her purpose for the homework, and how much time that a child should be spending completing the homework. It may mean that your child may not understand the assignment and the task that they have been assigned to complete if it's taking too much time.

Should I review my child's completed homework?

Parents can definetely check their childs homework. It's an opportunity for parents to determine if the work has been completed in it's entirety. But, it's also an opportunity to learn about what's going on in the classroom, and to facilitate discussions with the child about those learning activities. In most instances, parents do not need to check homework in it's entirety. The general idea is to ensure that students have an overall understanding of the work that they are completing.

Should I change my child's answers if they're wrong?

Parents should not change answers on homework. Homework is a student assignment. If you notice that your child has incorrect answers, then that's the time to have a discussion with your child. Ask him or her questions, help him to determine that the answer is incorrect, and really find or work through the process to getting to the correct answer.
