Getting Immigration Advice
How do I find an immigration advisor?
Most immigration advisors in the UK are either regulated by the Law Society or the Offices of the Immigration Services Commissioner. The best way to find an office of a regulated advisor would be to go to the websites of those organizations, and to look for an immigration advisory in your area. Anyone who is regulated by the OIC or the Law Society would have to of passed some competency tests, and have been regularly audited in the advice in information they give to clients.
Are immigration advisors expensive?
Generally speaking, immigration advisors give clients good value for money, because in many instances, like Barar Platt and Associates, we offer clients a no-win no-fee structure. We will only charge the client if we're successful with their case, not in all instances, but in the vast majority of cases we deal with, and very often, immigration is a very important issue to a client. It can shape their aspirations and plans and as a result it is vital that they receive good advice. If, however, money is an issue, I would direct, for example, clients to the Citizens Advice Bureau, where they're able to get free advice and guidance on immigration issues.
What does an immigration advisor do?
An immigration advisor advises clients on their United Kingdom immigration status, on their work permit status, or on their nationality status. An immigration advisor will normally meet with the client, discuss their circumstances, and then decide the best way forward with their particular problem. We also represent people at appeals, present their appeals and arguments relating to issues of contention with the home office.
