There's a number of things that individuals can do about gun control. One is contact your local elected officials, they're the ones that are making the decisions at the federal level, at the state level, at the local level about gun control. Let them know that you want something done. That you want Brady background checks expanded to all sales. That you want to make sure that military style weapons aren't showing up on our streets. Make sure that local law enforcement and the ATF have the resources they need to combat illegal guns. Those are things that the elected officials need to hear from the average citizen. Join groups like our Million Mom March chapters or our Brady Chapters in the various communities. We want individuals to get involved with the gun violence prevention issue, and the best way to get involved locally is to number one, see if there's a local chapter of the Brady Campaign, Million Mom March chapters there, whether there's a state wide group in your area, Cease Fire or whatever that you can talk to. If there's not, contact us at www.bradycampaign.org. We'll let you know if there is a chapter in the area, and if not, we'll work with you to start a chapter. Finding other people that care about the issue gives the individual even more power to influence elected officials. With that on your own or with others, you can write letters to the editor, you can contact elected officials, you can show up at health fairs, you can distribute the message to tell people that we make it too easy for dangerous people to get guns in this country. We can do something about gun violence in this country.
