Government Incentives For E-Waste Recycling
John Shegerian (CEO, Electronic Waste Recyclers) gives expert video advice on: Can I get tax benefits for recycling my electronic equipment?; Are there corporate tax credits for e-waste recycling?; What is an 'e-waste bill'?
Can I get tax benefits for recycling my electronic equipment?
There are no tax benefits in the state of California for recycling electronic equipment, but there are life benefits. By preserving the environment and passing on a better environment thean we found to our children and grand children; it's a life benefit. So, no tax benefits, but great life benefit.
Are there corporate tax credits for e-waste recycling?
There are no corporate tax benefits for e-waste recycling currently in jurisdictions, that I'm aware of, in the United States or in California.
What is an 'e-waste bill'?
An e-waste bill in California is an SB-20 type bill, which is an advanced recycling model which works tremendously. In California, which leads the way in electronic waste recycling, we have an advanced recycling fee which the consumers pay into and the state manages and creates this wonderful system where we recycled 65 million pounds in 2005 and 120 million pounds in 2006. Other states are going to pass that type of e-waste bill. Other states and jurisdictions are going to pass producer responsibility, but minimally all states and jurisdictions should pass a landfill ban which keeps this hazardous e-waste out of the landfills and out of our environment and keeps the world a better and cleaner place.
