Gun Rights Overview
What are gun rights?
Gun rights is simply shorthand for the rank that Americans have to keep and bear arms. It's universally part and parcel of the right that all people have whether their governments appreciated or not to defend themselves with firearms.
What is the history of gun rights?
When the history of gun rights is some what, similar as the history of freedom. Where you see gun rights, restricted or prohibited. We find slavery as in the American south or you find totalitarian governments and genocide as in the Soviet Union and in Nazi Germany.
Why are gun rights an emotional issue?
I think we can see gun rights as so emotional probably starting with the assassination of John F. Kennedy. That is a time when liberalism changed from somewhat of an optimistic view that socialism could be accomplished peacefully. And after his assassination there was an embitterment against America and against the means of his assassination, a gun. And so we have seen the irony of a man who belonged to the national rifle association, become the turning point in history, for the views that he believed in, from one of optimism to one up embitterment, and a real dislike of the instrument that was used in his assassination.
