Most people, when they get a Gun, get somebody to train them. It's either a family member who's been trained, or if people don't know anybody that could train them, a call to the nearest Gun store will take care of the problem, because they'll oftentimes offer classes, and even if they don't, they'll know who is qualified and certified to give training.

Gun safety classes are generally avaiable through gun stores or in conjunction with gun stores. Some stores have ranges as past of their service to the public in metropolitian areas you find indoor shooting ranges available for that.

How much do gun safety classes cost?

Classes are pretty nominal really and to use a shooting range, maybe ten to fifteen dollars an hour, so it's not a burdensome expense and it's well worth your money.

How much training do I need before I can handle a firearm?

Most Gun classes that I'm aware of train people in an hour or two before they actually have them shoot the Gun. They will learn how to make sure the Gun is empty. They will practice various safe routines for handling the Gun. And then they will be taken out to a shoot under supervision.
