Guys, Money And Career Competition

David Wygant (Dating Coach) gives expert video advice on: How should I tell him I'm broke or unemployed?; Do guys think successful women are threatening?; Can a guy handle it if I make more money than him? and more...

Do guys think successful women are threatening?

If you're a strong successful woman, you have got to learn how to flirt with a man and not conduct a date like a business meeting. If you conduct a date like a business meeting, you basically chop off masculinity and you emasculate him; then you are not going to be able to have a relationship. So men love when you're sweet but they also respect you in the boardroom. But the fact is you've got to be sweet to them and not conduct your love life like your personal life. Don't jump on us right away, be feminine. A lot of women forget about their femininity and they become too much masculine energy. So if you're a woman that has a lot of masculine energy you need to dial it back a little bit when you date.

Can a guy handle it if I make more money than him?

It depends on the guy, if a guy is ego driven absolutely not. If a guy is open and doesn't really care and you share that lifestyle with him and you're a team I don't think he minds. A good friend has been married to a woman who made a lot more money than him his entire adult life, he didn't care, he enjoyed it. You know it all depends on the type of guy, if you're going out with Joe Botz the macho guy who goes, "the woman's place is in her home", you can't be making that money. Absolutely the guy is going to be threatened by it. These are things you learn when you're dating. When you tell him you own a corporation and its one of the largest corporations in the town and he still wants to date you he's totally fine with it. If all of a sudden the guy that you're dating is not comfortable with it and he bales you know he's not comfortable with you making more money. Its all part of the initial dating process.

What if he doesn't care about my work?

If he's not interested in what you do for a living, then he's not interested in all of you. He's got to be interested in all of you. If he doesn't care what you do for a living, it means he doesn't respect you and doesn't respect what you do. So if a guy is not interested in your job and doesn't want to hear about your job, it means he looks at you below you. You're below him. He thinks he's above you. You're below him. That's something you need to look at. If you want a guy that respects every little bit of you, then you have got to find the guy that respects your job and respects your personal life.

Do guys think it's OK for a woman to stop working?

Some guys want a woman to quit working, others don't. I don't like women that quit working; I really don't want somebody who's doing nothing in their life. It's boring. You run out of things to talk about. What are you going to talk about with somebody? I work 70 hours a week; the woman works 0 hours a week. I have nothing to talk to her about. Nothing! I don't care what's on daytime television. So it all depends, really, on the type of man. Some men want the woman to have the place in the home, and they want to hear about the carpooling stories all day. Some men love women that are career-minded and full of life and travel and do things. It all depends on the type of person you are and the type of person you attract.
