Hitting A Baseball
What is a 'ground ball' in baseball?
A ground ball is any ball that's hit from the hitter that basically stays close to the ground and has, I guess you might say, some form of rhythm to it. Otherwise it would be called like a high chopper if it hit once and then had another huge bounce. So a ground ball is usually a ball that, once it hits the ground, it has kind of a syncopation of bouncing to it.

What is a 'blooper' in baseball?
A blooper is when a player hits a ball that lands between the outfielder and the infielder, and it doesn't really have the authority of a ball hit on a line, and it doesn't have the carry of a ball hit deep, like a deep fly ball. It's an in-between ball that just dies, if you will, between the infielder and the outfielder.

To hit the ball "opposite field" is for a right-handed hitter hitting the ball to the right field. For a left-handed hitter, it means hitting the ball to the left field.
What are some tips for batting in baseball?
The tips for a player to be successful as a hitter really comes down to firstly, seeing the ball well - that's the most important thing a hitter can do, is see the ball well without a lot of tension, secondly is really being set up in a stance where he's got some balance and he's comfortable and he's relaxed, and third would be to swing level through the ball, because in baseball you want to keep the ball in a line. If it goes a little bit up, that's an accident and that's okay, and if it goes a little bit down, it's a very hard ground ball. Lastly, I'd say to follow through so that you're not just swinging level, but you're swinging level with authority through the ball.

That's called an inside the park home run. The second one is the more traditional home run where the ball goes over the fence in fair territory.

What is a 'sacrifice fly' in baseball?
A Sacrifice fly is anytime you only have a runner on third, meaning it's not for a runner on second to go to third or a runner on first to go to second. The runner has to be on third and he has to score for it to be a sacrifice fly and it happens when a ball is hit in the air and not on the ground and the runner at third does what's called 'tagging up'. He waits for the ball to be caught and once the ball's caught he's allowed to leave third base. If he can get to home safely before the ball gets there, then you've had your sacrifice fly. The runner's scored.
