How should I compare different viewfinders and LCD's of camcorders?
When you go out to buy a camcorder, one of the key features on a camcorder is the LCD. That's the liquid crystal display, or little flip-out television that you can view your image on while you are recording. LCDs come in all sizes. The bigger ones tend to use more power. The brighter ones tend to use more power. But, bigger is easier to compose, and brighter is easier to see, especially when you are outdoors. It's all a matter of what camcorder works best for you, especially with this particular feature. One of the things you want to compare is whether or not there are any controls on the LCD itself, so whether you want to be able to hold the camera through the LCD, how easy and accessible that is. Does it rotate all the way around; does it move up and down? Can you shoot up over a crowd by tilting your LCD? Or, can you angle it low so you can get that nice low shot, especially if you have little kids. So, put the camera in your hand, move the LCD around, see if it's comfortable for you and compare it to others.
