How To Access Free, Long Term Care

Paul Lewis (Journalist) gives expert video advice on: How do you access free long term care?

How do you access free long term care?

The social services department of the local council, has an obligation to provide the long-term care people need. Now, that care is means tested. So your resources or income, your savings, the value of any empty property that you have, will be taken into account when they work out how much they give you towards the cost. But they have an obligation to provide the care, and then they take back from you, some of your income, some of your savings to help pay for it. But the way to access all of that is to go to social services department, or for your relatives to go to them, when you need the care, and they will sort it out. And always make sure that if you disagree with any of the decisions they make, you get advice from one of the big charities like Age Concern or Help The Aged. And if you do not like the decision, you appeal because you can be strapped for cash. I mean, if they can get more money then they will do so.
