How do I achieve amateur status in the skateboard world?

The easiest way to get any sort of the amateur status would be the to enter the California Amateur Skateboard League, enter some of the amateur contests that castle has and then you can work away up from there. Usually its oriented towards the kids. The kids division is huge. There are 100 kids on each division. The little kids get real serious about it, real serious. The can end up taking a little of fun out of it because they get so serious and all want to get sponsored in this and that. I do not really recommend that kind of attitude toward skateboarding, because I think that when you take the fun of it, it kind of destroys what skateboarding is all about.
