Whenever you're adding plants to your aquarium, you have to make sure that you have the roots. If it's a potted plant, you have them out of the pot and you can bury the roots deep into the gravel bed without disturbing other roots that may already be there. So you don't want to put it too close to other plants and you want to make sure that you bury the roots completely so it can get the nutrients down through the gravel that way.
