One of the things of an A-level and GCSE examinations is that they must be done through a school or a college so you can't just come in off of the street and go in and say I want this as an examination, so you must be registered with a school or college. And, that normally means either you go in as a private candidate or you go in on a course and sometimes that causes a slight difficulty – especially if you're outside the normal school age. So, if you wanted to re-sit the examination after the age of sixteen, sometimes you might find that a little difficult to get a school or a college to accept you.
