How To Avoid Cross Contamination When Dealing With Cancer Clusters

Gary Ginsberg (Toxicologist) gives expert video advice on: How can I avoid cross-contamination?

How can I avoid cross-contamination?

A few good standard things to look for, to be safe with your food supply and avoid cross-contamination, is to make sure that whenever you have high protein foods that you are serving to other people that you don't leave them out for a long time at room temperature, because that can grow salmonella or other bacteria. The classic again is especially if it has some mayonnaise or moisture content because that helps create the environment that can help bacteria to grow. So those kinds of foods you want to keep cold as long as possible and get them back in the refrigerator when they are not needed anymore. You want to be on the lookout for dented food cans, you want to be very careful about cutting board surfaces, knives that are used, utensils in cooking, to make sure that you are not carrying the bacteria from one type of food to another type of food. There is nothing you can do about the produce that may have been grown in a farm that was using improperly irrigated water. That is something we have to trust the federal agent who seems to be looking for and testing for safety.
