How To Avoid Spending Your Student Loan Too Quickly

David Malcolm (Student Finance Policy Officer) gives expert video advice on: How can I avoid spending my student loan too quickly?

How can I avoid spending my student loan too quickly?

When it comes to dealing with student debt and avoiding spending your student loan too quickly, most students will get their student loan within three installments over the course of the year and for a lot of students, that will go straight back out again to pay for accommodation, which often, particularly with university accommodation, is paid per term. However, if that's not the case for you, and you're worried you'll spend your spend your student loan money before you have rent payments to come out, or indeed any other payments, you may want to set up a separate bank account to which you'd pay on your student loan, and then set up a standing order which would pay a certain amount per week or per month into your account. This way at least you're budgeting with your student loan and it's more difficult for you to get into the account where the student loan is paid into. This may well be a way for you to budget and not overspend, avoiding potential student debt.
